Shirts
Western shirts come in everything from conservative solids and pin stripes to flashy prints and grotesque patterns. Start conservative unless you think that you were born with enough intrinsic flair to wear on in a pink stared pattern. And that takes a lot of flair.
Belt Buckles
Texas belt buckles are heirlooms passed down from father to son. So the belt buckle must be just right, and that means a pure metal belt buckle, no plated cheap old buckles, no elaborate two-tone scenes. The buckle is a personal statement, and that’s what Texas is all about. The belts’ got to be genuine made-in-Texas 100 per cent cowhide, no imitations with reflectors or Indian beads. A real Texas belt will have your first and second name tooled on it. If you don’t have a western name, just add “Joe” or “Bob” to it.
Jeans
Cowboy’s jeans wear out in funny places. First on the inside of the legs, then on the back pocket, The way to achieve this effect quickly is to give your new jeans to a jogger with fat legs. They’ll scrub the inside of the jeans pure white. Then sandpaper the back pocket with fine sandpaper, keep a can of Skoal in it and you’ll achieve the back pocket effect in no time. P.S. Foreign jeans and long fancy names just don’t make it in Texas.
Boots
Buy a good leather pair of boots. Beat and scrape your new boots until they’re dented, bruised, and scarred enough to expose the lighter colored leather. Find fresh manure and pack it tightly all around your boots. Make sure you get into the stitching. Now put your boots in the oven until completely dry. Take a knife and scrape as much of the mud off as you can. Your boots are now ready to wear. (Wait a few days until fully cured).

Hats
Cowboy hats are used to identify the person’s status in life. You can tell the boss man, Hi-Roller and hired hand just by the hat he’ll bear. The only other hat a Texan will wear, is a gimme cap. It protects your eyes and looks good sticking out of your back pocket. The most desirable gimme caps have logos from seed dealers and farm equipment companies.
